Why these study habits?

Research informs the targets, shared study, feedback and practice inside studiyo. These findings concern educational methods, not measured results from the product.

Learning with peers

Explain it to someone else

Peer tutoring and interactive learning inform Labs: study with a partner, ask for help and explain your reasoning. The benefit comes from the learning interaction, not just being online together.

Hattie, Visible Learning (2009); Chi & Wylie, ICAP (2014).

Motivation

Competence, autonomy, relatedness

Visible progress, a plan the student owns and company while studying address three needs behind durable motivation. XP and badges recognise study behaviours, not marks alone.

Ryan & Deci, Self-Determination Theory (2000); Sailer & Homner (2020).

Retrieval practice

Recall beats re-reading

Practice testing asks students to retrieve an answer rather than simply recognise it. Quizzes and flashcards make that effort a regular part of revision.

Roediger & Karpicke (2006); Dunlosky et al. (2013).

Spaced practice

Short sessions, spread over weeks

Distributed practice is rated a high-utility study technique. Spaced flashcards bring material back across time rather than leaving it all to the night before an exam.

Dunlosky et al., Improving Students’ Learning (2013).

Feedback and goals

A target and a next step

Specific goals work best when students can see progress and receive useful feedback. A planning-band ATAR projection and instant quiz explanations help make the next focus concrete.

Locke & Latham (2002); Hattie & Timperley (2007).

Balance

Sleep, movement and belonging

A study plan must coexist with wellbeing. Australian guidance for ages 14–17 recommends 8–10 hours of sleep, at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous activity and no more than two hours of recreational screen time.

Australian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines (2019); Dewald et al. (2010).
